I wrote on my last blog entry, How to Make Money Online with Twitter and Ad.ly Ads, that it was more than a month now since I signed up with Ad.ly. On that same day, I also signed up with Sponsored Tweets to make money online with Twitter.

What is Twitter?

Twitter is a real-time short messaging service.

Twitter is an online community and a sort of micro-blogging site where you can write short messages to stay connected with friends, relatives and coworkers. It is easy to follow the messages in Twitter because you are only allowed to write 140 characters.

In Twitter, anyone can follow you and you can follow anyone.

What is Sponsored Tweets?

Sponsored Tweets is a Twitter advertising platform that connects Twitter advertisers with tweeters or Twitter publishers.

What is Sponsored Tweets for Advertisers?

Let me quote Sponsored Tweets: “Advertisers can create sponsored conversations on Twitter.”

What is Sponsored Tweets for Tweeters or Publishers?

Again, let me quote Sponsored Tweets: “Tweeters can earn money for spreading the word.”

You can earn money from Sponsored Tweets if an advertiser will get you to promote its message.

But then, if you do not have a lot of followers, you are most likely not going to get any advertiser on your Twitter account.

If you would like to make money online with Twitter and Sponsored Tweets, you need to work for it.

If you would like advertisers to get you to promote their messages, you need to have more followers.

Even if you have a lot of Twitter followers but you have not signed up with Sponsored Tweets yet, then you will not be able to make money online with Twitter via Sponsored Tweets. You need to sign up with Sponsored Tweets first.

How to sign up with Sponsored Tweets?

1. Go to Sponsored Tweets.

Make money tweeting…

2. Click the sign up now button.

You will be redirected to another page, to a Twitter page to connect to your account.

An application would like to connect to your account.

The application Sponsored Tweets by IZEA, Inc. would like the ability to access and update your data on Twitter. This application plans to use Twitter for logging you in in the future. Not using Twitter? Sign up and Join the Conversation!

3. Enter your email address or Twitter username.

4. Enter your Twitter password.

5. Click the Allow button.

You will be redirected back to Sponsored Tweets.

Welcome @twitterusername, please enter your account details.

6. Check the box for “I’m a tweeter” since you are a Twitter publisher who would like to make money with Twitter and Sponsored Tweets.

7. Enter your account details.

Supply your answer on the fields for charge per tweet, payout guarantee, category, ad unit type, tags, content rating, notify via, referred by.

8. Finally, click register as a tweeter button.

You will be redirected to another page.

Step One: You’ve successfully signed up.

Step Two: Your Twitter account must be at least 60 days old, have at least 100 followers and 100 status updates to be visible in searches to advertisers. However, advertisers can still explicitly make you offers.

That’s it!

Sponsored Tweets has a referral program too. Click the join our referral program button on the right sidebar. You can use the referral link that Sponsored Tweets has provided you.

You can promote Sponsored Tweets and when a Tweeter or Publisher signs up using your referral link or badge, you will receive 10 percent of Sponsored Tweets portion of revenue for each successful transaction that Tweeter or Publisher makes. If you sign up an Advertiser you will earn 5 percent of Sponsored Tweets earnings for each transaction they make.

In order to ensure authenticity, every Ad.ly tweet is explicitly approved by the Twitter publisher. The publishers are able to set the price they want advertisers to pay and can optionally donate their earnings to charity.”

You can earn money from Ad.ly if an advertiser will get you to promote its message. If you are not an influential Twitter user with thousands or millions of followers, you are most likely not going to get any advertiser on your Twitter account.

If you would like to make money online with Twitter and Ad.ly Ads, you need to work for it.

If you would like advertisers to get you to promote their messages, you need to have more followers.

Even if you have a lot of followers in Twitter but you have not signed up with Ad.ly yet, then you will not be able to make money online with Twitter via Ad.ly Ads. You need to sign up with Ad.ly first.

How to sign up with Ad.ly?

1. Go to Ad.ly.

2. Click Sign Up with Ad.ly button.

Are you a Twitterer or Advertiser?

3. Click the Twitterer button to sign up as a publisher.

You will be redirected to another page.

4. Enter the email address you would like to use with Ad.ly.

5. Enter the password you would like to use with Ad.ly.

6. Confirm your password.

7. Click the Sign Up & Continue button.

You will be redirected to another page, to a Twitter page asking for authorization.

Authorize your Twitter account by clicking the button below.

8. Click the Authorize Twitter Account button.

You will be redirected to a Twitter page for authorization.

An application would like to connect to your account.

The application Ad.ly Network by Ad.ly Inc. would like the ability to access and update your data on Twitter. Not using Twitter. Sign up and Join the Converation.

9. Enter your email address or Twitter username.

10. Enter your Twitter password.

11. Click the Allow button.

You will be redirected back to Ad.ly.

12. Set your Account Details.

Supply your answer on the fields for About you, Country, Category, and Set Your Price.

13. Finally, click Complete Sign Up button.

You will be redirected to another page.

Welcome to Ad.ly!

That’s it!

Ad.ly has a referral program too. Click the Referral Program button beside your email address at the top area. You can use the referral link that Ad.ly has provided you.

You can promote Ad.ly and when someone signs up using your referral link, you will earn 12 percent of everything they make on Ad.ly.

I suggested that you try to make money online with Twitter on my last blog entry. I just realized that you probably do not have a Twitter account yet. So, before you can make money online with Twitter, you need to have a Twitter account first.

How to sign up with Twitter?

1. Go to Twitter and click the Sign up now button.

or

1. Go directly to this link, Sign up with Twitter.

2. Enter your first name and last name.

3. Enter the username you would like to use with Twitter.

4. Enter the password.

Please provide a difficult password.

5. Enter the email address you would like to use with Twitter.

There is a spam protection box that you need to type some words being provided and powered by reCAPTCHA.

6. Type the words (above) then.

7. Click Create my account button.

That’s it.

If there is a need to verify your account, check the inbox of the email address that you use for signing up with Twitter.

Follow the instruction at the email that you received and that’s it.

Now that you have a Twitter account, you need to have followers to be able to get advertisers to get you to promote their messages. This is where you are going to make money online with Twitter and Ad.ly Ads.

How to get more Twitter followers?

There are several ways to get more followers.

One way is, search Twitter and see who are into your niche or topic and follow them.

It is either they will follow you back or not follow you at all.

But it is not only about following them, you need to write messages too.

Write at least several messages everyday related to your niche or topic.

In my case, I do not write messages everyday but I am sure that it is one way to get followers based on my observation in Twitter.

Another way is, write messages related to “Make Money Online with Twitter“.

For example, if you read my last blog entry, Make Money Online with Twitter and Twitter messages on November 19, 2009, you will read there that within a day even without following anyone in Twitter, I was able to get more than 70 followers.

Before November 19, 2009, I only had less than 30 followers. Just because I mentioned “Make Money Online with Twitter”, I reached 100 followers within 7 hours.

The problem is, I was not able to maintain my followers as it is not really my habit to use Twitter everyday.

But if you are into Twitter and you would like to make money online with Twitter, try it out.

You will never know what could happen after you sign up with Twitter and Ad.ly.

But remember:

Write messages everyday related to your niche or topic.

Write something related to “Make Mone Online” or “Make Money Online with Twitter”.

Follow those who followed you. If they unfollow you, unfollow them too, unless you like to really follow them.

But bear in mind not to follow the spammers though. You might get a big problem there.

Follow those twitterers who are related to your niche or topic.

If those twitterers follow you, then good. If they do not follow you, you have the option to unfollow them.

I know that blogging or problogging is not the only way to make money online. I heard about making money online with Twitter too but did not really pay attention to it.

Now, I am experimenting and exploring the possibility of making money online with Twitter aside from problogging. So I tweeted about it at my problogit Twitter account. I was really surprised because just by simply using the three keywords MAKE MONEY ONLINE, it got me a lot of followers.

Then I followed it with several tweets regarding my reaction to what happened and also tweeted that I got 12 followers in 17 minutes. It did not stop there. I thought that they followed me today but then they will also be gone tomorrow. I even tweeted that as well. And yet, my followers kept increasing. Not only that, even my personal Twitter account is getting a lot of followers too.

What did I tweet? I simply tweeted:

Yes, I joined Ad.ly yesterday despite not being a heavy Twitter user. But I will not write any reviews yet as I am new to this medium of making money online with Twitter. I do not have a lot of followers but I joined anyway.

Tweeting about it actually resulted to something I did not expect. I did not want to actually tweet about it because I am so new into this MAKE MONEY ONLINE with Twitter thing, but I changed my mind. Changing my mind was indeed a good decision.

I did not follow my followers yet. I am not even sure if they will keep following me if I will not follow them yet. I also tweeted about it that I do not follow everyone who follows me. I still have to check their sites. I have to see if what they are doing is really effective and worth recommending.

We have our blogs but no one is reading them. That is always the problem of new bloggers. Well, it is not just enough to start a blog, and write content for a blog. We also need to promote our blogs. But before we promote our blogs, let us make sure that we have enough blog entries. If people decide to visit our blogs, we have enough articles for them to read.

There are several ways to promote a blog or a Website.

1. Search Engines

Submit your blog to the search engines. Google, Yahoo and MSN Live are the most popular search engines. The truth is even if I have no content on my websites or blogs, I always submit them to Google Search, Yahoo Search and MSN Live Search. Take note, I just do that for the search engines only.

I will give you the links right away, where to submit the url of your blog.

To submit the url of your blog at Google, go to
http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl.
To submit the url of your blog at Yahoo, go to
http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit.
To submit the url of your blog at MSN Live Search, go to
http://search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx.

With Yahoo though, you will be prompted to login first before they will process your submission. You can also submit your blog feed if you like.

What is the difference between a feed and url? In this case, the original RSS feed of this blog is http://www.problogit.com/feed because I am using WordPress as the publishing platform.

But I am using FeedBurner too, http://feeds2.feedburner.com/problogit for other purposes which I will be discussing later on. The url is the domain name itself, http://www.problogit.com only.

You can also further submit the url of your blog to other search engines like AOL, Alta Vista, Lycos, Ask.com, Cuil.com and a lot more.

Sometimes just like Yahoo, some of the search engines might ask you to open an account with the search engine first, so be prepared for that. Take note though, when you open an account with different search engines, please use different passwords. You can use the same username but make sure you have different password for each account.

2. Social Media

Join social networking services. There are different kinds of social media such as social networking sites, social bookmarking sites, microblogging sites, video sharing sites, and photo sharing sites among others.

Popular social networks are Facebook, MySpace, Friendster, LinkedIn, Bebo, Orkut and Hi5. There are more sites like Multiply, Tagged, Tubely, Skyrock, and WAYN among others, and there are still a lot out there.

When you join these social networking sites, be wary of others too. Just don’t bombard your friends and colleagues with all your blog entries. Do it in moderation. Give them some time to get used to your style of updating them on what is happening to you through your blog.

Popular social bookmarking sites and social news sites are StumbleUpon, Delicious, Bloglines, Technorati, Digg, and Reddit among others. Google Reader is now considered as social bookmarking site as well.

Popular microblogging sites are Twitter, Plurk, and Jaiku among others.

Popular video sharing sites are YouTube, Vimeo, Revver, and Metacafe among others.

Popular photo sharing sites are Flickr, Zooomr, Slide, RockYou, and Photobucket among others.

With all these sites, you need to open an account, so you know more or less that you will be memorizing a lot of passwords, which is again another topic to be discussed later on.

3. Internet Forum

Join Internet forum. It is another way of promoting your blog. You will learn a lot from the discussion inside the forum. If you have any questions, people are always willing to help.

4. Other Bloggers and Probloggers

Visit the blogs of other bloggers and probloggers. Study their blogs and eventually join the discussion by commenting on their blogs. Sooner or later if they think that you are good, there is a possibility of guest blogging. Meaning, you might be invited to write for their blogs. That is a great indication that you are indeed on the right track. It will definitely be very beneficial to you especially if the probloggers are very popular.

There are still a lot of ways on how to promote your blog such as having newsletters, paid advertising, attending social media events, and joining discussion groups, and so on, and so forth. But I know that you will soon discover them for yourself, so I just wrote about the popular ways on how to promote a blog.

Well then, if you are ready to promote your blog, hop on to those sites I mentioned and get yourself known in the world of problogging.
